Host an Empower Hour and Learn About Domestic Violence
Who: You, your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or acquaintances. Whether it’s a study group of six or an audience of one hundred, we are happy to come and discuss domestic violence and how our organization works to serve those who find themselves experiencing abusive situations.
What: An hour of discussion and fun with Sylvia’s Place (snacks and drinks included). The event will consist of two parts:
- Fun and Games
- Discussion
The Fun and Games portion of the event will feature an icebreaker game and a friendly competition in which attendees compete to see who receives the most points in donations. Just ask your guests to bring donations of their choosing, one or many. Donations can consist of items like toilet paper, laundry soap, food, or they can be monetary. The person with the most points wins a prize! Review our handout at the bottom of the page for further information about donations.
In our Discussion, we will talk about topics such as: healthy and unhealthy relationships, different types of abuse, why it’s hard for some people to leave domestic violence situations, and how you can help someone experiencing abuse. We will also review how Sylvia’s Place helps people in domestic violence situations.
When: You pick! Email us your preferred date and time and we will do our best to accommodate you. We ask that you give us at least a week’s notice in order to prepare for the event.
Where: Your choice! It could be at a church, home, school, or place of business; let us know where you want to host and we will be there.
Why: To raise awareness of domestic violence and equip people to recognize signs of abuse and help someone going through an abusive situation.
